General Settings

Edit server name, software, version, and memory allocation for each server.

The General Settings tab lets you change the core configuration of an existing server without recreating it from scratch. Open it by selecting a server in the sidebar and clicking the General Settings tab.

Editable Fields

FieldDescription
Server NameDisplay name shown in the server list
SoftwareServer software type (Vanilla, Paper, Fabric, Forge, etc.)
VersionMinecraft version (applies on next launch)
MemoryMaximum heap allocation passed to the JVM (-Xmx)

Changing the Software or Version

  1. Open the target server.
  2. Click the General Settings tab.
  3. Update Software and/or Version as needed.
  4. Click Save.

Note: MC-Vector will download the new server .jar the next time you start the server. Your world data and plugins are preserved unless you clear them manually.

Memory Allocation

The Memory field sets the -Xmx JVM flag (maximum heap). A few guidelines:

Server TypeRecommended Memory
Vanilla / small1–2 GB
Paper with plugins2–4 GB
Modpack (Forge / Fabric)4–8 GB

Leave at least 1–2 GB free for the OS and MC-Vector itself.

Renaming a Server

Changing the Server Name only updates the display label — it does not move or rename any files on disk. The server folder path stays the same.
